Wizards
Wizards
is an animated post-apocalyptic science
fiction/fantasy film about the battle between two
wizards, one representing the forces of magic and
one representing the forces of technology. It was
written, produced and directed by Ralph Bakshi. The
planet Earth has been badly damaged by a nuclear war
instigated by terrorists, and it has taken two
million years for the radioactive clouds to once
again allow sunlight to reach the surface. Only a
handful of humans have survived, while the rest have
changed into mutants who roam the radioactive
wastelands of Earth. In the good land of Montagar,
fairies, elves and dwarves (the true ancestors of
man) have returned and now live happily in the good
areas.

Plan Columbia - Cashing in on the Drug War
What
was the point of Plan Colombia? Is the U.S.
government still concerned with fighting drugs? Why
have 20 years of drug wars in the Andes resulted in
a two-fold increase in cocaine imported into the
U.S. in the last ten years alone? Could there be
alternate purposes to a plan focused on beefing up
the brutal Colombia military and spraying coca
fields in rebel-held parts of the country when coca
is grown all over Colombia? And what about oil,
given that Colombia has the same oil potential as
Venezuela, currently the second largest oil supplier
to the U.S.? The award-winning Free Will Productions
team sheds light on the complex issues of
drug-trafficking and civil struggle in Colombia and
the impact of both the current chemical-spray
program and the multibillion dollar aid package
delivered to the military. Analysis and interviews
with Noam Chomsky, the late Senator Paul Wellstone,
Colombian Presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt
(later taken hostage by the FARC), U.S. Members Of
Congress John Conyers and Jim McGovern, U.S. State
Department officials, a World Wildlife Fund
scientist, as well as Colombians from all walks of
life, including guerilla leaders.
Peace, Propaganda, and the Promised Land
“Peace,
Propaganda & the Promised Land” provides a
striking comparison of U.S. and international media
coverage of the crisis in the Middle East, zeroing
in on how structural distortions in U.S. coverage
have reinforced false perceptions of the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This pivotal
documentary exposes how the foreign policy interests
of American political elites--oil, and a need to
have a secure military base in the region, among
others--work in combination with Israeli public
relations strategies to exercise a powerful
influence over how news from the region is reported.
Through the voices of scholars, media critics, peace activists, religious figures, and Middle East experts, “Peace, Propaganda & the Promised Land” carefully analyzes and explains how--through the use of language, framing and context--the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza remains hidden in the news media, and Israeli colonization of the occupied territories appears to be a defensive move rather than an offensive one. The documentary also explores the ways that U.S. journalists, for reasons ranging from intimidation to a lack of thorough investigation, have become complicit in carrying out Israel's PR campaign. At its core, the documentary raises questions about the ethics and role of journalism, and the relationship between media and politics.
Private Warriors
FRONTLINE
returns to Iraq, this time to embed with
Halliburton/KBR, and to take a hard look at private
contractors who play a critical role in running U.S.
military supply lines, providing armed protection
and operating U.S. military bases. Their dramatic
story illuminates the Pentagon's new reliance on
corporate outsourcing and raises questions about
where they fit in the chain of command and the price
we are paying for their role in the war.
Stealing a Nation
Would
Britain eradicate a nation’s entire population using
trickery and force in order to make a business deal
with the United States? If Britain’s own courts
deemed this illegal and commanded politicians to
allow the citizens to return to their homeland,
would they ignore their own judicial system? John
Pilger investigates.
Nicaragua - A Nations Right to Survive
Right
now Latin America has many leftist governments. But
things weren?t always this way. This film overviews
the U.S. involvement in Latin America and discusses
the Ronald Reagan supported Samoza regime which was
ultimately overthrown by populist Sandinistas whom
later established democratic elections with the wide
support of the people. The Sandanista government
which was in power during the making of this film
faced a US and England bent on pressuring regime
change. I find this documentary as well as others
regarding US involvement in Latin America
significant because they show that US governmental
interests in the past were not always with the
benefit of the people in mind. The chaos now
engulfing the Middle East was once in Latin America.
War on Drugs - Penn and Teller's BULLSHIT
This
episode of BULLSHIT questions the constitutionality
of the "War on Drugs" and common allegations against
the medical value of Cannabis. It exposes a few of
the clowns who find a sense of pupose in making
people miserable instead of trying to help them.
Interviews with commentary by Penn and Teller.
Operation Hollywood
Since
the 80's, and the success of Top Gun, Hollywood has
increased its production of big budget war movies,
using military bases, submarines and aircraft
carriers that the armed forces have generously made
available to the studios. In exchange, the
Pentagon's experts vet hundreds of screenplays each
year. Using lots of movie clips, "Operation
Hollywood" explores this cozy relationship between
Hollywood filmmakers and the U.S. government, and
questions the wisdom of letting the Pentagon use
movies to promote the U.S. army’s image. "Operation
Hollywood: How the Pentagon shapes and censors the
movies" by David L. Robb, a former journalist for
Daily Variety and the Hollywood Reporter, is a
timely work. Published in 2004, a year after the
U.S. led occupation of Iraq, it exposes one of the
dark secrets of American movies military
interference in film production and Hollywood’s
acquiescence to it. Robb notes that the
collaboration between the military and movie makers
works because the Pentagon has what Hollywood
filmmakers want - access to billions of dollars
worth of military equipment. And Hollywood has what
the Pentagon wants - millions of potential recruits.
Money Masters - How International Bankers gained control of America
There
is a fundamental truth about money and debt which
few people know and even fewer believe that
something should be done about it. This highly
informative and easy to understand film covers just
about everything that isn't taught in school
regarding the corrupt banking system. It explains
how these institutions get away with robbing the
unsuspecting public by creating monetary policies
designed to enslave society, while keeping the
system in a perpetual state of rising debt.
Manufacturing Consent
This
documentary film explores the political life and
ideas of Noam Chomsky, a linguist, intellectual, and
political activist. Created by two Canadian
independent filmmakers, it expands on the ideas of
Chomsky's earlier book, Manufacturing Consent: The
Political Economy of the Mass Media, which he
co-wrote with Edward S. Herman. The film presents
and illustrates Chomsky's and Herman's propaganda
model, the thesis that corporate media, as
profit-driven institutions, tend to serve and
further the agendas of the interests of dominant,
elite groups in the society. A centerpiece of the
film is a long examination into the history of The
New York Times's coverage of Indonesia's invasion
and occupation of East Timor, which Chomsky claims
exemplifies the media's unwillingness to criticize
an ally.
Distorted Morality
Noam
Chomsky is a renowned scholar, the founder of the
modern science of linguistics, a philosopher, a
political and social analyst, a media critic, an
author of more than 70 books, a winner of numerous
prizes and awards, and ranks with Marx, Shakespeare,
and the Bible as one of the 10 most quoted sources
in the humanities. In this remarkable documentary,
Noam Chomsky offers a riveting but devastating
critique of America's current war on terror arguing,
in fact, that it is a logistical impossibility for
such a war to be taking place. Professor Chomsky
presents his reasoning with astonishing and
refreshing clarity, drawing from a wealth of
historical knowledge and analysis. "Only those who
are entirely ignorant of modern history will be
surprised by the course of events, or by the
justifications that are provided..."
United States vs. John Lennon
"The
U.S. vs. John Lennon" focuses on a part of the music
icon's life that is often overlooked: his
politicization both during and after the Vietnam
War. Towards the end of the Beatles' career, Lennon
began taking the band in a new direction, using
their popularity to circulate a message of peace in
songs such as "Revolution." He became even more
involved after the band broke up, and the film
traces his growing awareness and dissent through
both archival footage--much of which had lain
forgotten in vaults for decades--and interviews with
those close to him. This leads to the titular case,
in which the U.S. government, which had already been
monitoring his actions for some time, attempted to
deport the star for fear of the threat he posed to
the nation. The film avoids falling into the trap of
one-dimensional idolatry, showing Lennon's
politicization as reflective of his own spiritual
path, a very personal, at times fallible, journey
towards using his fame to make the world a better
place. The constraints and depletion of civil
liberties Lennon experienced at the hands of the
U.S. government, invite comparisons to contemporary
politics.
The Free Voice of Labor - Jewish Anarchist Newspaper
This
film traces the history of a Yiddish anarchist
newspaper publishing its final issue. The story is
mostly told by the newspaper's now elderly, but
decidedly unbowed staff. This is the story of one of
the largest radical movements among Jewish immigrant
workers in the 19th and 20th centuries and the
conditions that led them to band together. These
elderly anarchists reflect on their lives spent
fighting for a less centralized government, workers’
rights and above all, justice for all. In doing so,
strong social bonds were formed while authorities,
including managers, police and the government, put
psychological and physical pressure on them.
Spying On the HomeFront
'So
many people in America think this does not affect
them. They've been convinced that these programs are
only targeted at suspected terrorists. … I think
that's wrong. … Our programs are not perfect, and it
is inevitable that totally innocent Americans are
going to be affected by these programs,' former CIA
Assistant General Counsel Suzanne Spaulding tells
FRONTLINE correspondent Hedrick Smith in “Spying on
the Home Front.”
Jesus Camp
"Jesus
Camp" follows several young children as they prepare
to attend a summer camp where the kids will get
their daily dose of evangelical Christianity.
Through interviews with Becky Fischer, the children,
and others, "Jesus Camp" illustrates the unswerving
belief of the faithful. A housewife and
homeschooling mother tells her son that creationism
has all the answers. Footage from inside the camp
shows young children weeping and wailing as they
promise to stop their sinning. Child after child is
driven to tears. Juxtapose these scenes with clips
from a more moderate Christian radio host (who is
appalled by such tactics), and Jesus Camp seems to
pose a clear question: are these children being
brainwashed?

The Road to Guantanamo
What
would happen if you were on vacation in Afghanistan
and were accused wrongly of being a terrorist and
taken to the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay,
Cuba? Winner of the Silver Bear at the Berlin
International Film Festival, "The Road to
Guantanamo" is the terrifying first-hand account and
recreation of three innocent British citizens who
were held there for two years. Charges were never
brought against them.
Slavery - A Global Investigation
This
film explores three separate industries where slaves
are still to be found: the carpet industry in
northern India, the cocoa industry in the Ivory
Coast, and domestic slavery in Britain and the U.S.
At present, approximately 4000-5000 children are
missing from Northern Bihar, India. Slavery is
officially banned internationally by all countries,
yet despite this there are more slaves in the world
today than ever before. In the four hundred years of
the legal slave trade around 13 million people were
shipped from Africa. Today there are an estimated 27
million slaves - people paid no money, locked away
and controlled by violence.
Supersize Me
This
is one man's journey into the world of weight gain,
health problems and fast food. It's an examination
of the American way of life and how we are eating
ourselves to death. Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock
unravels the American obesity epidemic by
interviewing experts nationwide and by subjecting
himself to a 'McDonald's only' diet for thirty days
straight. His Sundance award-winning feature is as
entertaining as it horrifying as it dives into
corporate responsibility, nutritional education,
school lunch programs and how we as a nation are
eating ourselves to death.
The Story of God
The
Story of God is a three-part video series produced
by Dangerous Films featuring physician, Professor
and British Lord Robert Winston. The Story of God
series explores the origins of religion. The
documentary focuses on the three Abrahamic faiths,
and discusses belief in God in a scientific age. The
series included a number of interviews with
scientists including Dean Hamer, atheist Richard
Dawkins, and members of the CERN programme. During
the documentary Winston debates notable creationist
Ken Ham, visiting the creation museum where
scientific facts are ignored in favour of religious
certainty. He presents his view that science and
religion have an important role in human
development, but absolute certainty in either, 'can
lead to serious problems'.

Transcending the Dualistic Mind
Dr.
John Mack, M.D., was a Pulitzer Prize-winning author
and professor of psychiatry at the Harvard Medical
School who had spent 40 years exploring the question
of how our perception of ourselves shapes our
perception of the world around us. (this video is
from the International UFO Congress, 2002.

The Current Crisis: Transcending the Dualistic Mind.
The events of September 11 reflect a growing planetary crisis that is deeper than the attack itself or its social, political and economic causes: We in the West are trapped in a dualistic worldview that reduces reality to simple divisions of good and evil. In his talk, Dr. Mack will discuss explorations of the Center for Psychology and Social Change (now the John E. Mack Institute), especially the study of the UFO encounter phenomenon and other anomalous experiences, that are revealing the possibility of a unifying cosmology that transcends this dualism.

Peggy Kane Interview - Alien Agenda
In
the first-ever DVD of the "UFO Hypotheses" series,
UFO researcher and talk show host Peggy Kane
("UFOAZ," "Off The Record," and "The Cutting Edge,"
all public access talk shows originating out of
Tucson, Arizona) discusses her odyssey into the
strange realms of EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena)
and RS (Reverse Speech), which led her into ongoing
conversations with the dead now residing in the
lower astral world. Her research also led to a
multi-year contact with one Francis Haley, an
endentured servant-turned adventurer who died in
1830. As she explored further, Ms. Kane clarified
decades worth of research and began to formulate her
own UFO hypothesis. Ms. Kane is now convinced that a
reptilian ET race from Orion has taken control of
this lower astral realm. Her hypothesis also
suggests that the reptilian ET "gods" colonized our
Earth long ago, and continue to use Earth humans as
a slave race and food source. (Not intended for
anyone under 18 years of age or skeptics.
