If you're accustomed to making electronic circuits, the Beck electrifier is a simple low frequency square wave design. The following circuit was offered by Bob Beck as part of his lecture package and was also published in Nexus magazine in 1998. If you have electronics ability, you can change the three, series-wired 9 volt batteries to a single 9 volt battery using a DC tripler circuit.
